As more details about the upcoming iPhone 4G leak out, one thing is clear: anticipation is high for what is fundamentally a brand new Apple product. Coming on the heels of a hugely successful iPad release (which apparently even took Apple by surprise), we can expect similar results in what appears to be a major overhaul of what is already the best-in-breed mobile device.
Although denied by Apple (no surprise), right now all signs point to an end of June 2010 product release, or perhaps that will slip into July. We’re going to go on record (wink, wink) with June 29, 2010, 10AM as the official launch.
About that “HD” bit above… obviously the name isn’t official, as Apple hasn’t even acknowledged the existence of the new product. Some are saying that HD makes more sense, as the iPhone won’t run on other ‘4G networks’. Also, the device is very video-centric, and HD connotes quality and value in the video space. Since the current product is the 3G, and the original iPhone was retroactively referred to as “2G”, “4G” is still a probable moniker.
